Trying to Conceive after Tubal Reversal

OK, this is the big one. After all you went through the surgery so that you could have another child. Well, at least most women do. So when can you start trying after tubal reversal?

One leading doctor suggests you wait at least one month before trying to conceive. He wants you to let your body heal and to let it go through one whole cycle after tubal reversal. You can see how this would be a good idea.

But, I'll let you in on a secret. Some women just don't wait. Or at least, they take no precautions to prevent conception after tubal reversal. Therefore, you will read stories of a lucky woman getting pregnant within two or three weeks after tubal reversal. But, as a precaution, you should take it easy and wait.

Your Cycle After Tubal Reversal

Many women will wonder what will happen with their cycles after tubal reversal. Does it change or does it stay the same?

Unfortunately, this is one of those questions I have to answer ambiguously. It's going to depend. It depends on your body. It can also depend upon whether or not you suffered from any post tubal ligation syndrome problems.

Some women find things go right back like they were. Some women will see that their cycles will vary from month to month for a while even up to a few months.

You will most likely want to buy and use an ovulation predictor kit for several months after tubal reversal. This will help you know when you are ovulating especially if it does take a few months for things to settle down.

C-Section - Do I Have to Worry about It after Tubal Reversal?

The next concern for some women after tubal reversal is whether having a c-section has a higher likelihood. Not necessarily. Again this will depend upon the doctor you choose and how he or she performs the surgery.

In the case of one leading doctor who does not cut the muscle but does cut through the connective tissue, the answer is no. This type of surgery is no more likely to cause you to need a c-section than any other abdominal surgery. Remember, it is the fallopian tubes that are being operated on and not your uterus.

This is not to say it couldn't be needed for some other reason. That's possible regardless of the surgery. But after tubal reversal, you should have little to worry about a c-section being needed...unless you had one before and that is between you and your obstetrician.

Exercising After Tubal Reversal

Another question some women have after tubal reversal is about exercising. When can I start exercising again? The answer goes back to two different things.

First, it depends upon the tubal ligation reversal doctor that you chose for your surgeon. What type of surgery does he perform? Some doctors may not take the time to separate the muscles in the lower abdomen by slowly cutting through the connective tissue. Instead they will cut through the muscles themselves. In this case, you are going to have a much longer recovery time than mentioned in our last post and a subsequently longer time till you can do strenuous exercise.

However, if you chose a doctor who does take the time then you should be able to get back to your exercise sooner. Just remember you have had an incision, possibly more depending upon the type of surgery done, and it is in your abdomen. Take it easy and let it all heal fully after tubal reversal before putting your body under a lot of strain. It would be too bad to let all that hard work go for naught.

Lastly, remember that 15 pound weight lifting limit for at least a month. Again, let your body heal after tubal reversal surgery.

Don't Lift too Much After Tubal Reversal

As an addendum to the last post, you need to know that one of the best tubal ligation reversal doctors on the planet highly recommends that you confine yourself to picking up no more than 15 pounds for a month after tubal reversal surgery. If you have ever had abdominal surgery, you will know this is not an uncommon stipulation.

In fact, you should be able to get a note from your doctor after tubal reversal to give to your boss. This note will let her know that you just had an operation and are limited by your doctor to lifting no more than 15 pounds for a month after tubal reversal. Be sure to get that note if your job does require any lifting.

After Tubal Reversal - Recovery Time

What most women want to know first is how long it takes to recover after tubal reversal surgery. They want to know generally how long they have to take it easy before they can start doing their normal activities.

While you should give yourself and your body a full month to recover from the operation, it takes about one to two weeks to return to normal activities. If you have a desk job, you might find you only need a long weekend before getting back to that desk after tubal reversal.

One doctor's patient provided a testimonial that she was helping put in a fence within one week. While I doubt any doctor would even suggest such a thing, this does give you an idea about how fast recovery can be. Just like anything, though, your mileage may vary. This means you could be the one who takes several weeks to recover after tubal reversal. A lot of this could depend upon the doctor you chose and his level of expertise and experience.
